Visit GREEN BUILD for tips on greener and cheaper living

Category: NNDC

DIY enthusiasts, house-builders and renovators, and families with an interest in saving money and conserving the environment can get tips and advice from the experts at a ‘green’ living event this month.

On Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 September, North Norfolk District Council’s annual Green Build event will again take place at Felbrigg Hall near Cromer, showcasing businesses that specialise in environmentally-sensitive building and lifestyle products, and with talks and presentations from experts in the field. Green Build is open from 10.30am to 4pm both days.

The programme also includes family entertainment throughout the two-day event, and there will be a food court with refreshments including local and organic food.

Admission and car parking is free at Green Build, with programmes costing £1. The event coincides with the National Trust’s countrywide Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 13 September, when Felbrigg Hall itself will be open for free, while the walled garden will be open for free both days.

Green Build will see more than 50 stands to do with eco-construction, clean energy and energy-saving, waste reduction, growing your own produce and other ways to lessen our impact on the environment — and save money. North Norfolk District Council’s own waste and recycling, environmental health, building control, planning and conservation teams will be on hand to offer advice.

Demonstrations will include woodworking, plastering, biomass boilers, solar energy and composting. Speakers including academics, writers and conservationists will explain a range of ideas and projects to do with protecting our precious environment.

Family entertainment with a green theme includes the Momo Theatre Company, the Fairyland Trust making ‘fairy crowns’ and exploring fairy folklore, plus Footprint Arts, Maggie Campbell and Jessica Perry running different craft workshops using recycled materials.

Visitors to Green Build can also get a 210-litre water butt at a discounted rate courtesy of exhibitor Amari Building Plastics, and there will be free giveaways of water- and energy-saving devices, with a National Trust gardener on hand giving away packets of seeds.

The Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be attending on the Saturday only, running a sustainability quiz trail.
