Following the success of the Making Tracks concert tour in 2007 the BBC Concert Orchestra, in partnership with Orchestras Live, will be performing new Making Tracks concerts in Stevenage, Grantham and Norwich in March 2008. These entertaining, educational, interactive concerts for 7 to 11 year olds are enhanced by big screen projections which help children see right into the heart of the orchestra. Resources and workshops for teachers prior to the events support preparation in schools and enhance children’s enjoyment and learning. We expect about 10,000 children to attend this year’s concerts, many hearing a live orchestra for the very first time.
The concerts include well-known works such as Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite alongside music for film and television. All the children get a chance to join in with plenty of audience participation, all led by CBBC presenter Rani Price and conductor Robert Ziegler. The children also get to sing with the BBC Concert Orchestra in a song composed by Music Manifesto Singing Champion Howard Goodall. Teachers will be helping their children learn the song before the concerts through resources available on the new ‘Sing Up’ website. ‘Sing Up’ is a new national music campaign supported by the Government which promotes singing in primary schools. Local ‘Sing Up’ music leaders will direct the children’s singing in the concerts.
North Norfolk District Council is very pleased to be a partner in this project. Over 1100 children from 26 North Norfolk schools will be attending the concerts in Norwich.
The tour is supported by BBC Radio 3 and BBC Learning, as well as Orchestras Live, and County Music Services and District Councils in Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
