Role You will undertake a wide variety of professional negligence cases against any profession to include accountants, auditors, actuaries and pension trustees; agronomists; architects, surveyors, valuers and other construction professions; solicitors and barristers; computer software writers and other IT professionals; IFAs; insurance brokers, loss adjustors; stockbrokers; doctors, dentists and other clinical professions; and alternative medical professions. Imagine the range of work in which these professionals are involved and you will appreciate the range of things that can and do go wrong, and the variety of complex and interesting work on which the team are retained. You will frequently come across legal issues where your own knowledge is limited and at those times will need to brief either other lawyers to act as an "internal expert" in the case, or seek external assistance either from counsel or industry experts. You will be expected to keep abreast of a range of legal subjects and keep up to date with relevant law and legal practice, attending the in house training, as well as that offered by our clients and various sets of counsels' chambers. Working always under supervision, you will undertake your own matters or assist the partners or other more experienced lawyers in the team on complex cases. In addition, you will assist the team leader to attract new clients to the firm by supporting and/or taking part in marketing events, often outside office hours and away from Norwich. You will also prepare or assist in the preparation of publications. You will be expected to take part in secondments we arrange with our London based clients from time to time. Such secondments involve working at the direction of our clients, often on work the team is dealing with. You will at all times display the highest standards of your profession. Candidate skills The market in which you will be working is very much linked to personal relationships. You will need good interpersonal and social skills, an outgoing and confident personality, with an enthusiasm for working with demanding and well informed clients. You will have to be a team player, not only working with others in the team in Norwich, but with the other teams in the group, willing to participate in cross office and cross firm events and initiatives. Essential ? Good academics ie 2.1 degree or equivalent with A levels (A,A,C or equivalent points) ? Defendant based dispute resolution experience gained in a reputable firm which ideally specialises in insurance-related and, in particular, professional indemnity work. Given the nature of the clinical/medical mal-practice work, a familiarity with the issues surrounding quantification of personal injury awards, would be helpful. ? IT literacy, including familiarity with MS Office ? Excellent written English ? Ability to build relationships with clients and potential clients ? Good research skills, including an ability to use online information sources ? Negotiating skills ? Time and paper management skills ? Excellent interpersonal and team skills, including ability to work with others, influence and persuade ? 1+ years PQE Desirable ? Marketing skills ?
